Independent. Community-rooted. Book-obsessed.

A neighborhood bookshop built on real conversations and genuine recommendations.

Our story

From a weekend market stall to the East Valley's favorite bookshop

Chapter & Verse opened in 2009 when founder Diane Holloway set up a folding table at the Sunridge farmers market with three boxes of used books and a handwritten sign. The books sold out by noon. She rented a storefront on Main Street the following spring.

Fifteen years later the ethos hasn't changed -- we still read everything we stock, still write shelf notes by hand, and still believe the right book at the right moment can genuinely shift someone's life. Come see what we've been reading lately.

What we stand for

Values that show up on every shelf

A love of stories

We opened this shop because we believe books change lives. Every shelf, every staff pick and every event we host reflects that conviction.

Community at the center

We host book clubs, story times and author events because we know that the best reading experiences happen in community, not in isolation.

Independently yours

No chain, no algorithm, no corporate picks list. Our inventory is chosen by readers, for readers -- and we stand behind every title we carry.

Welcoming every reader

Whether you're eight or eighty, a devoted reader or buying your first novel, everyone gets the same warm welcome and honest recommendation.

Who we serve

Readers across the East Valley

We welcome customers from across the region and ship special orders anywhere in Arizona.
