Restoration programs & community services

Every initiative we run traces back to a single goal: a healthy, living Salt River corridor for Sunridge and beyond.

Wetland & Habitat Restoration

We restore degraded riparian zones by removing invasive species, re-grading floodplains, and re-establishing native plant communities that shelter wildlife and stabilize banks.

  • Large-scale buffelgrass and tamarisk removal
  • Native cottonwood and willow corridor planting
  • Floodplain re-grading and berm restoration
  • Wildlife corridor connectivity projects

Water Quality Monitoring

Our citizen-science monitoring program tests dozens of sites along the corridor each month, tracking nitrates, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and aquatic health indicators.

  • Monthly dissolved oxygen and turbidity sampling
  • Nitrate and phosphorus trend analysis
  • Macroinvertebrate health assessments
  • Public data dashboard updated quarterly

Native Plant Stewardship

We propagate and install native Sonoran Desert riparian species -- cottonwood, willow, mesquite, and native sedges -- through seasonal planting events open to all skill levels.

  • On-site native plant nursery producing 15,000+ starts per year
  • Seed collection and storage program
  • Riparian sedge and rush installation
  • Invasive removal follow-up planting protocols

Volunteer Stewardship Days

Join a Saturday morning work party to remove buffelgrass, plant natives, collect seeds, or conduct wildlife counts. No experience needed -- bring gloves and water.

  • Every Saturday 7am-12pm at the Riparian Way trailhead
  • All tools, gloves, and supplies provided
  • Family- and youth-friendly -- no experience needed
  • Volunteer hour tracking and recognition program

Education & Public Tours

School programs, guided nature walks, and birding tours bring the restored corridor to life for students and community members of all ages throughout the year.

  • K-12 school field trip program tied to AZ science standards
  • Guided birding and nature walks open to the public
  • Watershed education curriculum for classrooms
  • Annual River Days community festival

Donate & Partner

Financial gifts, in-kind contributions, and corporate partnerships fund restoration crews, monitoring equipment, and community outreach programs year-round.

  • Tax-deductible cash and stock donations accepted
  • Corporate volunteer day coordination
  • Grant-funded restoration project sponsorships
  • Matching gift and in-kind equipment programs
